Residents in Cattedown have expressed concerns about persistent foul smells coming from Plymouth Central Wastewater Treatment Works, with Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Luke Pollard is calling for urgent action from South West Water.

Following ongoing complaints, Mr Pollard met with Keith Haslett, CEO of Pennon Group, which manages South West Water, to press for answers on what is being done to tackle the problem.

South West Water has now launched a dedicated online reporting tool to help residents record and report odour incidents more easily.

Luke Pollard MP said:

“Folks in Cattedown are sick and tired of having to put up with these unpleasant smells, and so am I. Residents have every right to expect a clean and pleasant environment where they live.

“I raised these concerns directly with South West Water and made clear the frustration local people are feeling. I’m pleased that they have now introduced an online reporting tool to help identify where and when these problems are occurring.

“The more reports that are submitted, the stronger the evidence and the greater the pressure on South West Water to deliver a lasting solution. If you smell it, report it, so we can get it sorted.”

Residents can report ongoing odour issues using South West Water’s reporting tool here.

Luke is encouraging anyone affected by the smells to make use of the tool to help build a clearer picture of the scale and frequency of the problem and support efforts to secure a permanent fix.
