Reverend Sue and I are incredibly proud to formally announce the establishment of the new ‘Pride in Place’ Neighbourhood Board for Devonport, Mount Wise, and Morice Town.

This 14-member board brings together local residents, voluntary groups, school representatives, and local councillors who will lead our ten-year, £20 million regeneration plan. The goal of this programme is to put neighbourhood investment directly into the hands of local people.

I’m delighted that the board will be chaired by local community leader Rev Sue Nicholas- priest at St Aubyn Church and governor at Mount Wise Primary School. The board features a majority of local residents alongside representatives from fantastic grassroots organisations including the Salvation Army, Argyle Community Trust, and Routeways.

The Pride in Place programme guarantees up to £2 million annually over the next decade. Based on what you’ve told us, our key priorities will be focused on:

  • Revitalising our local high streets
  • Restoring community hubs
  • Improving green spaces and parks
  • Strengthening youth services
  • Enhancing neighbourhood safety

This £20 million investment isn’t about top-down decisions—it’s about giving our community the power and the funds to shape its own future. Devonport, Mount Wise, and Morice Town each have their own rich history, unique identity, and incredibly strong sense of pride.

Rev Sue Nicholas is already proving to be a powerful lead of this fantastic board. With local residents driving every decision, we are ensuring that every pound spent delivers visible, lasting improvements—from better parks to safer streets and stronger support for our young people.

As our Independent Chair, Rev Sue Nicholas, says:

“Having lived and worked in Devonport for years, I know firsthand how resilient, creative, and passionate our community is. Being asked to chair this board is a true privilege.

“Our job is simple: listen to local people, amplify their ideas, and turn this £20 million funding into real opportunities that everyone across Devonport, Mount Wise, and Morice Town can benefit from for generations to come.”

What happens next? The next step is to hear from you. The Neighbourhood Board will be working with residents across all three areas over the coming months to finalise our local Pride in Place Plan before we roll out the initial project funding. We want to know what matters most to you, and what changes will make the greatest difference to your lives.
