  • Plymouth selected as a new VALOUR Centre to support veterans across Devon and Cornwall
  • New hub will provide joined-up support on housing, employment, health and wellbeing
  • Part of a national programme to improve services and end the postcode lottery for veterans

I’m really pleased to share that Plymouth has been selected as a new VALOUR Centre, bringing a major boost to support for veterans and their families across our region.

This is something I’ve been working on alongside colleagues locally, and it’s fantastic to see our bid succeed.

What this means for Plymouth

The new VALOUR Centre will be led by Improving Lives Plymouth and based at Ernest English House in the city centre.

It will act as a hub for veterans across Devon and Cornwall, working alongside partners including Veterans Regroup and Veterans Outdoors, as well as a wider network of local organisations.

The aim is simple – to make it easier for veterans and their families to access the support they need.

That includes help with housing, employment, benefits, health and wellbeing, all brought together in one place.

Alongside the Plymouth hub, there will be a network of pop-up centres across the region, plus a planned satellite centre in Truro, ensuring support is accessible wherever people live.

Why this matters

Plymouth is a proud military city, with thousands of veterans and their families calling our city home.

But for too long, support has been fragmented and difficult to navigate, with too many people facing a postcode lottery when trying to access help.

The VALOUR programme is about changing that – bringing services together, improving coordination, and making sure no one falls through the cracks.

It’s backed by significant national investment and forms part of a wider commitment to strengthen support for veterans across the UK.

What happens next

The Plymouth VALOUR Centre will be open Monday to Friday, with additional outreach through pop-up sessions across Devon and Cornwall.

There are also plans to expand the network further, including a future centre in Exeter, subject to additional resources.

I’ll continue working with local partners to make sure this new centre delivers real results for veterans and their families here in Plymouth.

Plymouth has the expertise, the community spirit and the track record to make this a success.

There’s more to do, but this is a big step forward – and a real win for our Armed Forces community.
