I want to share an exciting opportunity with teachers and school leaders across Plymouth Sutton and Devonport.
UK Parliament is celebrating 20 years of its Teacher Ambassador Programme, and applications are now open for a fully funded three-day training course taking place from 22–24 June 2026 at the historic Palace of Westminster.
This is a fantastic chance for 65 teachers from across the country to experience Parliament first-hand – and I would love to see Plymouth represented.
The programme is open to headteachers, teachers and educators at any stage in their career, and from any subject background. Whether you teach history, science, English, maths, politics or primary school pupils – this opportunity is for you.
Even better, it’s fully funded. Travel, accommodation and meals are all covered.
Over the three days, participants will:
- Explore the Palace of Westminster
- Take part in Q&A sessions with the Speaker, the Lord Speaker and Members of both Houses
- Hear from parliamentary staff working in key roles
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to develop engaging ways to teach about Parliament and democracy
The aim is to help teachers feel more confident bringing Parliament to life in the classroom – and then share that learning with colleagues and the wider school community.
The feedback from previous participants speaks for itself. After the most recent programme, 100% rated the course positively and 100% said it was helpful for their teaching. One teacher described it as: “An unforgettable, immersive, and truly inspiring experience! The guest speakers and hands-on activities brought Parliament to life in a way I’ll never forget…being part of it felt genuinely special.”
Helping young people understand how our democracy works has never been more important. Teachers play a vital role in that, and this programme offers a rare behind-the-scenes experience that can make a real difference in the classroom.
Applications close on Sunday 29 March 2026.
If you’re a teacher in Plymouth Sutton and Devonport – or you know someone who is – I strongly encourage you to take a look and consider applying.

I hope to see Plymouth teachers taking part.
