Cornwall Beach has become a real eye-sore with manky old boats left to rot, it shouldn’t be like this. Locals are rightly upset about it and want action. That is why, in early January, I held a meeting in the brilliant Lugger Pub to discuss this issue with key stakeholders from the community and the Royal Navy, Babcock and the Kings Harbour Master and local Councillor, Bill Stevens.
It was a constructive meeting, and has highlighted the concerns of the community. Some of these issues should be, in theory, things that can be resolved fairly quickly. Folk raised simple issues such as access to the bollard key and signs clearly stating that mooring alongside the pontoon is limited to two hours only – just enough time to pop in to the Steam Packet for a quick drink.
I am really grateful to local residents for coming along and engaging with this me on this, we have a great opportunity in this area with the Pride in Place funding to make areas like Cornwall Beach places we are proud of again. We need to get this right so we don’t just clear it up and then more boats are dumped. There are complexities over the ownership and who has responsibility for certain areas, and we are making enquiries and hope to have more information soon.
I will be keeping people updated on progress with this, so please drop me a line on [email protected] if you would like to be kept updated.
