Excellent Bathing Water Results for Plymouth – But We Must Keep Up the Pressure
I’m delighted to share that Plymouth’s bathing waters have once again achieved excellent classifications in the latest DEFRA report. Firestone Bay, Hoe East, and Hoe West are all rated Excellent for 2025 – a fantastic result for swimmers, paddleboarders, and everyone who loves our waterfront.
This success is thanks to the hard work of local residents and campaigners who joined me in pushing to stop private sewers discharging into our waters. It shows what we can achieve when we work together.
But let’s be clear: while this is great news, water companies are still polluting our rivers, lakes, and seas. That’s why I’ve been campaigning for year-round bathing water testing, and why the Labour Government is taking action to tackle sewage pollution head-on. We’re introducing tougher penalties for polluters, accelerating investment in infrastructure, and ensuring water companies put the environment before shareholder profits.
Clean water isn’t a luxury – it’s a right. I’ll keep fighting for Plymouth to lead the way in protecting our coast and rivers.
