Good news Plymouth – Derriford Hospital is set to save thousands of pounds on energy bills to be reinvested in the NHS frontline, thanks to a new project to fit it with solar panels.
Derriford is part of the government’s first major project to install solar panels on over 400 schools and NHS sites across the country, including 44 projects here in the South West. The average NHS site will save up to £45,000 a year on energy bills.
This is a win-win for Plymouth. It will deliver cleaner energy and save University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust more than £2 million across the lifespan of the solar panels, money that will be reinvested where it’s needed most – on the NHS front line.
