Why was the Chancellor’s Spring Statement good news for Plymouth? ⬇️
1️⃣ More jobs and opportunities in Plymouth with a £2.2 billion increase in the defence budget next year, protecting national security and maximising economic growth. The Chancellor championed Plymouth as a “world class industrial centre”.
2️⃣ More money in your pocket. People to be on average £500 a year better off by the end of this parliament compared to under the Tories according to independent OBR analysis.
3️⃣ Landmark planning reforms will mean UK housebuilding reaches its highest level in over 40 years, creating a £6.8 billion boost to the economy according to the independent OBR.
4️⃣ £625 million package to boost skills in the construction sector, to provide 60,000 more skilled workers to boost housebuilding.
5️⃣This Spring Statement does not contain any further tax rises – a promise kept.
6️⃣ Less bureaucracy and more money for the NHS frontline by scrapping ‘NHS England’ and cancelling thousands of wasteful government credit cards.
7️⃣ Spending across government will grow to rebuild our public services, and a commitment from the Chancellor to fix the dire state of military housing in Plymouth left behind by the Conservatives.
As well as this, NHS waiting lists are down 5 months in a row, with more than 2 million extra appointments delivered since the election.

And 3 million workers will get a pay rise next week with an increase in the National Minimum Wage.
