Last week, in my capacity as Minister for the Armed Forces, I was in Ukraine leading a first-of-its kind international trade delegation to deepen our industry ties with Ukraine and bolster its defence manufacturing capability. On my return, I wrote for the Daily Express about my recent trip and why it is so crucial we continue stepping up our support for the Ukrainian people.
Putin is weak, but dangerous – but we must continue to stand with Ukraine. The lesson from this appalling conflict is that peace and security can only be achieved from a position of strength. There’s a lot of talk about peace but as a Defence Minister I know we must not forget about the war that continues to rage. Britain will continue to stand with Ukraine against Putin’s illegal invasion. I know people in Plymouth feel strongly in support of Ukraine and I will continue to support them because if Putin wins in Ukraine, he won’t stop there.
