I recently met with Anneliese Hodge, PhD Researcher, and Dr Frances Hopkins, her PhD supervisor, from the University of Plymouth on their research into chemicals found in sunscreens and how it affects marine life. Their study has shown there are significant gaps in our understanding of how these chemicals might affect wildlife.
I’m very impressed with the depth and breadth of the study and the dedication that our wonderful researchers at Plymouth Marine Laboratory have to improving our understanding of the ocean. Identifying gaps in our knowledge so it can be built upon for us to improve the natural environment. I hope this study, which has been published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin, is read widely and built upon in the coming years.
