The Palace Theatre is one of Plymouth’s most iconic historic buildings. It exudes history and heritage yet under its current owner it has fallen into disrepair.
I welcome the news that it is up for sale. This a significant opportunity to rescue this important building and save it for the city. We now need a city-wide effort to find a sensible owner to stabilise the building, make it watertight again and then give it a proper future.
The Palace Theatre has topped my Plymouth Buildings At Risk List for the last two years, with a clear message to its owner to invest in the property or sell it to someone who will. I know putting the building up for sale will not have been easy for the current owner, but this is the right decision to help safeguard the future of this building.
